Good news for our weavers and labourers from Ministry of Rural Development and the Ministry of Textiles as the two bodies plan to generate minimum of five lakh employment opportunities for below poverty line (BPL) rural families.
It is expected that textiles will invest about Rs1.4 lakh crore by 2008 of which Rs80000 crore have already been invested.
With this huge investment, the Ministry also expects textiles turnover to reach Rs80 billion from the present Rs45 billion. And this will offer 12 to 14 million employment opportunities for unskilled labourers as well as professionals.
Ministry sources revealed that the plan includes a skill development programme for members of BPL families in rural India.
District rural development agencies will find out persons from rural BPL families and they will be provided with training for 30 to 90 days and will be employed by the textile industry.
The cost of training will be shared between textile industry and the Government.
