The value of Cambodia's fabric imports from China was $1,294.787 million between January and May 2023. During this period, the country imported 625.220-million-metre fabric at $2.07 per metre, which was 5.47 per cent lower than the $2.19 per metre in 2022. In 2022, the import was 1,493.435-million-metre fabric, valued at $3.274.009 million, according to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro.
Previously, the average price of fabric imported by Cambodia was $2.02 per metre in 2021, $1.75 per metre in 2020, and $1.90 per metre in 2019. Cambodia imported 1,532.481 million metres (value $3,097.961 million) in 2021, 1,241.554 million metres (value $2,171.959 million) in 2020, and 1,355.630 million metres (value $2,577.961 million) in 2019.
According to TexPro, China is the dominant fabric supplier for Cambodia. The total imports stood at $1,650.272 million in the first five months of this year. China's contribution was $1,373.419 million, representing 83.17 per cent of the total. Last year, China accounted for 79.27 per cent of Cambodia's total fabric import worth $4,406.303 million.
