Cambodia's BRI-backed SEZ sees 34.8% YoY rise in trade volume in 2023

Trade through Cambodia’s Sihanoukville Special Economy Zone (SSEZ) was worth $3.36 billion last year—a year-on-year (YoY) rise of 34.8 per cent, according to the SEZ operator.

SSEZ is a flagship project under China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and has investments from Chinese and Cambodian players.

“The trade volume through the SSEZ accounted for approximately 7.18 per cent of Cambodia’s total trade volume,” a statement from the operator said.

The SEZ has attracted a cumulative investment of $2.27 billion, hosting 180 enterprises from China, Europe, the United States, Southeast Asia and other countries and regions, creating about 30,000 jobs for local people, a Chinese state-controlled news outlet reported.
