However, China’s apparel exports to the EU increased by 2.05 per cent in 2024 compared to $25.932 billion in 2023. This followed a steep decline of 18.23 per cent from $32.367 billion in 2022. Meanwhile, China’s apparel imports from the EU rose to $3.816 billion in 2024, up from $3.757 billion in 2023. The country had imported apparel worth $3.720 billion in 2022, according to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro.
China remains a net exporter to the EU for most textile products and it also imports these products from the EU in significant volumes. The country exported industrial textiles worth $781.670 million in 2024, compared to $670.889 million in 2023 and $890.131 million in 2022. In contrast, China’s imports of industrial textiles declined to $279.445 million in 2024, down from $317.840 million in 2023 and $344.118 million in 2022.
China is a major supplier of home textiles to the EU, with minimal imports of these products. Its home textile exports increased by 11.79 per cent to $5.392 billion in 2024, compared to $4.823 billion in 2023. In 2022, outbound shipments were valued at $5.624 billion. The country also exported home textiles worth $89.666 million in 2024, $81.498 million in 2023, and $91.570 million in 2022, as per TexPro.
China’s fabric exports to the EU increased to $3.635 billion in 2024, up from $3.526 billion in 2023. Trade volumes stood at $4.167 billion in 2022. The country’s fabric imports were recorded at $544.476 million in 2024, compared to $577.836 million in 2023 and $577.111 million in 2022.
In 2024, the EU exported goods worth €213.3 billion ($231.3 billion) to China and imported €517.8 billion ($561.6 billion), resulting in a trade deficit of €304.5 billion ($330.2 billion), according to Eurostat, the statistical office of the EU.
