However, the US remained the second-largest sourcing nation after Brazil, as in previous years. During the corresponding period last year, China had imported 474.087 million kg of cotton valued at $1,021.210 million, according to sourcing intelligence tool TexPro.
China’s total cotton imports fell to $744.126 million in the first four months of this year, down from $2,856.264 million in the same period of 2024—marking a 74.3 per cent decline. The import volume also dropped to 398.049 million kg, compared to 1,378.476 million kg in January–April 2024.
In the full year 2024, China had imported 875.789 million kg of cotton from the US, valued at $1,854.765 million. Both value and volume were higher than in 2023, when China imported 752.037 million kg worth $1,661.040 million. In 2022, cotton imports from the US stood at 1,132.138 million kg, valued at $3,051.107 million, according to TexPro.
China’s overall cotton imports totalled 2,610.283 million kg ($5,319.193 million) in 2024; 1,950.952 million kg ($4,162.371 million) in 2023; and 1,927.590 million kg ($5,233.070 million) in 2022.
