According to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro, the outbound shipment of fabric to Cambodia was recorded at $3.493 billion in 2022. After COVID-related disruptions in 2020, the trade increased by 42.4 per cent to $3.265 billion in 2021, and further gained 6.96 per cent to $3.493 billion in 2022.
China had supplied fabric worth $2.636 billion in 2018, which slightly increased by 2.75 per cent to $2.709 billion in 2019. However, the shipment dropped by 15.35 per cent to $2.293 billion in 2020. China is a major raw material supplier globally, including to Cambodia, which heavily relies on it for affordable raw materials for its garment industry. China also supplies yarn and fibre, albeit in limited quantities, to the country.
As per TexPro, China supplied yarn worth $296.744 million in the year 2023, which was almost the same as the $297.528 million noted in 2022. Fibre exports from China to Cambodia were just $5.486 million last year. It is important to note that Cambodia does not import significant amounts of yarn and fibre, as it lacks a strong spinning and knitting/weaving industry. Its focus is mainly on garment manufacturing for global supply.
