For the month of May 2019, data indicates that textiles and clothing exports touched $23.8 billion, showing an increase of 2.8 per cent compared to the same month of the previous year.
Category-wise, textile exports fetched $11.6 billion for China during the month, registering an increase of 3.9 per cent year-on-year. Apparel exports rose by 1.7 per cent to $12.2 billion, the data showed.
The increase in May exports to the US is attributed to the rush to export by the Chinese companies before new US deadlines to impose a tariff hike on $200 billion of Chinese goods. (RKS)
