Textile and garment exports from China declined 2.37 per cent in the first-half of 2019, according to data from the country’s General Administration of Customs. One reason for the decrease is the imposition of additional tariffs by the US on $200 billion worth of Chinese products including yarn, fabric, knitted products and some home textiles.

During January-June 2019, China’s total textile and garment exports fetched $124.23 billion, down 2.37 per cent over the same period in 2018. Of this, textile exports earned $58.62 billion, showing a marginal growth of 0.66 per cent, while garment exports dropped 4.93 per cent to $65.61 billion, the data showed.

In the month of June 2019, Chinese exports of textiles, including yarn, fabric and related products, decreased 3.24 per cent year-on-year to $10.31 billion, whereas garment exports fell 2.73 per cent to $14.34 billion. (RKS)
