China's trade with fellow BRICS nations up 19.1% in 2023

China’s international trade with other BRICS countries—Brazil, Russia, India, and South Africa—has witnessed a significant increase of 19.1 per cent year-on-year (YoY), reaching 2.38 trillion yuan (around $326.85 billion) during January-July 2023. This constitutes 10.1 per cent of China’s total foreign trade value during this period, a surge of 1.6 percentage points from the previous year.

Specific figures reveal that China’s exports to BRICS nations totalled 1.23 trillion yuan, a YoY growth of 23.9 per cent, while imports stood at 1.15 trillion yuan, growing 14.3 per cent on a yearly basis, as per the General Administration of Customs (GAC).

China’s private companies, in particular, have shown great enthusiasm in expanding into these markets, with a rapid growth in trade volume. Their foreign trade amounted to 1.36 trillion yuan, marking a growth of 29.4 per cent, accounting for 57.1 per cent of the total trade volume between China and other BRICS countries.
