The US exported textiles and apparel products worth $3.459 billion during the first half of 2023, making up 28.05 per cent of the total shipment of $11.096 billion. Total exports declined by 4.05 per cent from $12.409 billion in January-June 2023. The shipment to Mexico eased by 0.03 per cent in the first half of this year, down from $3.460 billion in the same period of last year.
US total textile and apparel exports were valued at $22.652 billion and $24.866 billion during 2021 and 2022 respectively. The shipments to Mexico were valued at $6.268 billion and $6.836 billion in those years.
In the textiles and apparel imports of $51.256 billion by the US in the first half of 2023, the inbound shipment from China was $11.339 billion, constituting 24.07 per cent of the total. Overall imports dropped by 22.69 per cent from $66.301 billion between January and June 2022. Meanwhile, imports from China registered a more significant fall of 28.40 per cent from $15.837 billion. The US had imported products worth $113.718 billion in 2021 and $132.084 billion in 2022, with trade from China noted at $31.559 billion in 2021 and $15.837 billion in 2022.
