The decline in exports to China is mainly due to lower shipments of specialised machinery and components. Exports fell in both value and volume, despite average export prices rising nearly 4 per cent.
Meanwhile, the total value of goods imported from China increased by 5.4 per cent year-on-year in the first half of 2025—the highest growth among the Netherlands’ top ten import partners—driven primarily by higher trade volumes rather than prices.
Overall, international goods trade appears to have stabilised after several turbulent years, with both import and export volumes increasing by 1.6 per cent, CBS said in a press release.
Dutch goods exports to Poland rose 12.7 per cent year-on-year, driven by higher trade volumes and increased average prices. From Ireland, the Netherlands imports many medicines and pharmaceutical products, whose prices fell significantly in the first half of 2025. As a result, the overall price of imports from Ireland declined considerably.
