German non-EU exports face 4.3% yearly decrease in Aug 2023

Germany saw a decrease in its exports to non-European Union (EU) countries, also known as third countries, in August 2023. A 1.7 per cent decline was observed compared to July 2023 and a 4.3 per cent decrease compared to the same period last year, as per provisional data from the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis).

On a seasonally and calendar-adjusted basis, Germany exported goods valued at €58.4 billion to non-EU countries in August. In original values, the exports stood at €57.4 billion, also reflecting a 4.3 per cent decrease from August 2022.

German exports to non-EU countries faced a decrease of 2.9 per cent month-on-month (MoM) in July 2023. The value of exports to third countries amounted to €59.0 billion after seasonal and calendar adjustments.

Despite the monthly drop, the figures showed a slight improvement on the same month a year earlier, with an increase of 1.1 per cent on a calendar and seasonally adjusted basis, and a 1.2 per cent increase in original values.
