Germany's export surplus soars to €98.7 bn in H1 2023

Germany’s trade performance in the first half (H1) of 2023 showcased a marked improvement, with an export surplus of €98.7 billion, more than double the €41.8 billion seen in the same period in 2022.

The country’s total exports rose by 3.3 per cent to reach €797.8 billion compared with the first half of the previous year. Meanwhile, imports saw a decrease, falling 4.3 per cent to €699.1 billion in comparison to the same period in 2022, Destatis said in a press release.

In the first five months of 2023, Germany exported goods to the total value of €658.6 billion, which rose by 3.5 per cent compared with January to May 2022.
