Germany’s exports, on a calendar and seasonally adjusted basis, to countries outside the European Union (third countries) increased by 7.4 per cent year-on-year (YoY) and 5.2 per cent month-on-month (MoM) in February 2023, as per the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis).

The country exported goods to the value of €61.2 billion—calendar and seasonally adjusted—in February 2023. Germany’s exports to third countries (original values, exports of goods) in February 2023 were worth €58.7 billion, which was a growth of 6.1 per cent YoY, Destatis said in a press release.

Meanwhile, Germany exported approximately 462,500 tonnes of old clothes and second-hand textiles in 2022—a decrease of 10.7 per cent YoY (518,100 tonnes). In relation to the total population in Germany, this represented 5.5 kgs of second-hand textiles which were exported per capita in 2022.

Exported quantity of second-hand textiles decreased by 11 per cent compared with 2021; the main importers were Poland and the Netherlands. In Germany, 70 per cent more textile and clothing waste was collected from households within ten years.

On a global scale, only the US exported more old textiles in 2021, China followed in third place.
