The directive, issued through Notification No. 06/2025-26, is effective immediately.
A new clause, Para 2.20A, has been inserted into the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2023, banning both direct and indirect imports or transits of Pakistani goods, regardless of their previous import status. The measure applies to goods entering India directly or through third countries.
“Direct or indirect import or transit of all goods originating in or exported from Pakistan, whether or not freely importable or otherwise permitted, shall be prohibited with immediate effect, until further orders. This restriction is imposed in the interest of national security and public policy,” the Ministry of Commerce & Industry said in a press note.
Any exception to this rule will require prior government approval.
This move effectively formalises and broadens earlier restrictions, halting all trade flows from Pakistan until further notice.
