Indonesia's fibre exports to Bangladesh surge, yarn plunge in 2023

A major shift was observed in Indonesia's textile shipments to Bangladesh from January to September 2023. Exports of fibre to Bangladesh surged, but yarn shipments declined from the year 2022. Fibre shipments to Bangladesh were valued at $124.877 million during the first three quarters of 2023, which increased to 63.20 per cent of the total textile exports. Earlier, they accounted for 43.94 per cent of the total textile exports in 2022. However, yarn exports fell from 51.70 per cent to 32.58 per cent of the total textile exports in the first three quarters of 2023. 

Indonesia’s textile exports to Bangladesh were valued at $197.582 million during the first three quarters of 2023. Indonesia’s fibre export rose marginally by 1.39 per cent to $124.877 million during January-September 2023, up from $123.159 million in the corresponding period of the previous year. However, yarn exports to Bangladesh plummeted by 58.55 per cent to $64.370 million in the period under review, down from $155.294 million in January-September 2022, according to Fibre2Fashion’s market insight tool TexPro. 

Indonesia's fabric export to Bangladesh totalled $8.334 million during the first three quarters of 2023, representing 4.22 per cent of the total textile shipment. Fabric exports saw a decline of 33.54 per cent from $12.541 million in the same period of 2022. 

During 2022, the outbound shipment from Indonesia totalled $352.450 million. It exported fibre valued at $154.880 million, which constituted 43.94 per cent of the total. Meanwhile, yarn exports were $182.232 million, accounting for 51.70 per cent of the total shipment. Fabric shipments were valued at $15.336 million, making up 4.35 per cent, as per TexPro.
