Italy's exports to non-EU27 countries increased by 20.3 per cent in January 2023, while imports decreased by 1 per cent compared to the same month in the previous year, according to the preliminary data by the Italian National Institute of Statistics (Istat). The trade balance with non-EU27 countries registered a deficit of €1,359 million in January 2023, a significant improvement from a deficit of €5,284 million in January 2022.In seasonally adjusted terms, Italy's exports increased by 0.7 per cent and imports decreased by 9.7 per cent compared to December 2022. Over the past three months, seasonally adjusted data showed a 5.8 per cent increase in outgoing flows and a 14.8 per cent decrease in incoming flows.
Excluding energy, Italy's trade surplus was equal to €6,129 million, up from a €2,272-million surplus in January 2022, as per Istat.
