In the first half of this calendar year, imports for textile yarn and fabric amounted to 569,055 million yen, marking a 1.6 per cent decline compared to the same period in the previous year. These imports accounted for 1.0 per cent of Japan's total imports.
From January to June 2023, Japan's exports of textile yarn and fabric were valued at 370,588 million yen, an increase of 2.0 per cent year-on-year. Meanwhile, the country's textile machinery exports rose to 160,699 million yen, a significant increase of 15.3 per cent from the corresponding period of 2022. These exports contributed 0.3 per cent to Japan's total exports.
In June 2023, Japan's clothing and accessories imports inched up by 2.2 per cent to 239,539 million yen. The imports of textile yarn and fabric were noted at 96,394 million yen, marking an 11.6 per cent decline compared to the same period in the previous year. Conversely, exports of textile yarn and fabric were valued at 69,156 million yen, a decrease of 1.6 per cent year-on-year. Additionally, the country's textile machinery exports rose to 26,142 million yen, a significant increase of 30.2 per cent.
During FY23 (April-March), Japan's clothing and accessories imports reached 3,619,550 million yen (approximately $25,046.36 million), reflecting a substantial 26.1 per cent increase compared to FY22. The imports of textile yarn and fabric were valued at 1,275,608 million yen, reflecting a growth of 23.2 per cent. Over the course of FY23, Japan exported textile yarn and fabric worth 776,999 million yen, while the exports of textile machinery were valued at 306,781 million yen.
