In the same month, Japan imported textile yarn and fabric worth 94,632 million yen, a decline of 14.1 per cent compared to July 2022. These imports accounted for 1.1 per cent of the nation's overall imports.
Conversely, Japan's exports in textile yarn and fabric decreased by 2.0 per cent year-on-year, amounting to 67,038 million yen. On a brighter note, exports of textile machinery saw a significant boost, reaching 29,609 million yen, up by 15.1 per cent from July 2022. These exports contributed 0.3 per cent to Japan's total exports.
For the fiscal 2023 (April to March), Japan's imports of clothing and accessories surged to 3,619,550 million yen (approximately $25,046.36 million), marking a substantial 26.1 per cent growth compared to FY22. Similarly, imports of textile yarn and fabric reached 1,275,608 million yen, showing a 23.2 per cent rise. During FY23, Japan exported textile yarn and fabric valued at 776,999 million yen, while its textile machinery exports were worth 306,781 million yen.
