Textiles sector set to reach export target of $17bn

Textile industry of Pakistan aims to reach exports figures of US $17 billion for current fiscal, conveyed Commerce Minister Humayun Akhtar Khan.
Addressing the press, Khan informed that through considerable rise in volume, exports increased from $5.4 billion to $6.6 billion; a 23 percent growth during first five months of 2005-2006.
Exports figures revealed that for the first time in 2005-06, Pakistan surpassed $12 billion mark, up from its previous exports earnings of $8 to $9 billion.
During July-November 2005-06, textile exports expanded to $4.03 billion, up from $3.16 billion, sizeable 28 percent growth, he added.
Cotton cloth, readymade garments, cotton yarn and towels witnessed expansion of 33, 72, 43, and 12 percent respectively during the period under review, Khan stated.
