China retains competitive advantage in textile exports to Japan

China has been able to retain its competitive advantage in exports of textiles and apparels to Japan, in spite of transfer of low-price orders.

Owing to increase in manufacturing costs in China, relatively low-priced orders for textile exports to Japan shifted to other countries. But, many Chinese enterprises that participated in the 16th China Textile & Clothing Exhibition (CFF) held in Osaka, Japan, said their exports to Japan have grown so far in 2011.

According to Customs statistics, a significant increase of 23.2 percent has been witnessed in Chinese textile and apparel exports to Japan during the first six months of current year.

Rise in prices of textile and apparel items, the appreciation of Japanese yen, and the fact that Chinese goods meet the demand of Japanese market have all contributed to this increase in Chinese textile and apparel exports to Japan.
