Tunisian textile, garment exports decline in 2011

Textile and garment exports from the northernmost African country of Tunisia saw a decline of 2 percent in value terms in 2011 compared to 2010 figures.

The highest decrease was registered in exports of knitted and woven apparels to Italy, which fell by 3.02 percent in value and 13.69 percent in number of units.

On the other hand, Tunisia's textile and garment exports to the US increased to 694,000 Tunisian dinars in December 2011 from 369,000 dinars posted during corresponding month of previous year.

Tunisia's textile and clothing imports also registered a year-on-year decline of 1.68 percent during the year and fell to 349 million dinars. The highest decline was witnessed in imports of denim fabric, which decreased by 34.21 percent in value.
