Government's resolve is to join hands with the industry, to tap resources to elevate the textile and handicraft industry, and at the same time evolve welfare schemes for protecting weavers, artisans and designers, said Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh.
Speaking at the inauguration of India Exposition Centre and Mart (IECM), in NOIDA, in Uttar Pradesh, Dr Singh for saw India being on the verge of becoming a major player in textile and handloom sector.
India has ability to take lead as a creative industry in the international arena, because our craftsmen have artistic excellence, traditionally, he added.
Dr Singh advised the stake holders to be on their toes to curb plagiarizing of designs and methods as Indian handlooms and handicraft markets surge in US and EU.
