Textile exports excel registering 22% rise

Textile industry of India performed well in quota-free domain, said Office of Textile and Apparel (OTEXA) in US.

Indian exports of textile and apparel to US in 2005 have gone up by a record 22 percent.

In terms of value, this growth is around 35 percent in 2005 compared to 14 percent in 2004, which registered a slump of 10 – 12 percent in exports volume.

Apart from China, Indian textile exports have surpassed almost every other nation.

Cotton segment also excelled compared to other countries besides China.

Cotton exports from the country rose by more than 20 percent in terms of volume, said D K Nair, Secretary General, Confederation of Indian Textile Industry.
