Textile import surge causes dip in cotton consumption

Brazil's legal as well as illegal cotton textile and apparel imports went up in November, putting the countries textile sector into a tailspin.
Import surge has weakened Brazil's cotton consumption noticeably during the second half of the year.
November cotton yarn imports went up to 770 tons in November, up 102.6 percent. January to November cotton yarn import was 7,094 tons, up 125.6 percent.
Cotton fabric import in November was 1,719 tons, up 116.8 percent. January to November import was 14,213 tons, up 99.0 percent.
Cotton apparel imports in October was 798 tons, up 133.0 percent. January to November imports was 5,756 tons, up 59.1 percent.
Import figures in 2005 will be a record even as China turns up as the largest supplier for the country.
