Nepal exported Np Rs. 3.11 billion worth of textiles and garments, including carpets and pashmina, to India during the first eight months of Nepali fiscal that began on July 16, 2011, as per the central bank data.

In comparison, Nepal exported pashmina worth Np Rs. 2.08 billion to third countries, i.e. excluding India, during the eight-month period. The country also exported garments worth Rs. 3.06 billion and woolen carpets worth Rs. 4.60 billion during the same period.

The figures indicate that nearly one-fourth of Nepal's total export earning from textiles and apparels came from India.

The single market concentration increases Nepal's vulnerability and can affect the country's total export earnings anytime, according to experts.

Nepal's total exports to India stood at Rs. 32.59 billion, constituting a major chunk of the country's total exports worth Rs. 48.56 billion during the review period.
