US textile & garment imports from China continue to grow

In the first half of 2012, US imported US$ 17.31 billion worth of textiles and clothing items from China, showing a rise of 6.9 percent year-on-year.
 
The growth in US textile and apparel imports from China was higher than the growth witnessed during 2008 and 2009, but was lower than that achieved in 2007, 2010 and 2011.
 
From January to June this year, US imported textiles worth US$ 4.97 billion from China, an increase of 12.1 percent year-on-year. The country imported garments worth US$ 12.34 billion during the same period, growing at 4.9 percent year-on-year.
 
The unit prices of yarn, fabric and apparels imported by the US from China decreased by 7 percent, 8 percent and 1.7 percent, respectively.
