An agreement for bilateral investment protection and avoidance of double taxation will be signed shortly between Qatar and Belgium, the Minister of Economy and Commerce, HE Sheikh Mohamed bin Ahmed bin Jassim al-Thani said yesterday.
Qatar will be exporting liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Belgium, he said.
After receiving a delegation led by Belgium's Minister for Economy, Energy, Science and Foreign Trade, Marc Verwilgen at his office, Sheikh Mohamed said the rising trade between the two countries will be further consolidated by the LNG supplies.
Trade between the two countries registered QR225 million last year.
Qatar imports foodstuff, pharmaceutical products, apparel, paper, furniture and leather ware from Belgium and exports ethylene and other chemical products to Belgium.
Belgium will also open an embassy in Doha shortly, Sheikh Mohamed said.
Delegation accompanying Verwilgen will be calling upon HH The Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani today.
Verwilgen is also scheduled to meet Second Deputy Premier and Minister of Energy and Industry, HE Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiyah today.
