Belarus to resume supplying fabrics to Russian govt

The Eastern European nation of Belarus will resume supplying fabrics to Russian Government departments, as the Eurasian Economic Commission has lifted the restrictions imposed by it on Belarusian fabrics.

In March 2012, the Russian Government had put restrictions on bidding for orders of government agencies and municipalities by Belarusian textile and garment manufacturers, according to Bellegprom, the Belarusian light industry.

The decision of the Russian Government meant that Belarusian companies like Kamvol, Mogotex and Lenta were unable to get orders for their special fabrics, which they normally sold to Russia.

It is due to Bellegprom’s efforts that the Eurasian Economic Commission has lifted the restriction on Bealrusian fabrics, Lyudmila Tyaglova, Deputy Chairwoman of Bellegprom said at a press conference.

Russia is the main importer of Belarusian light industry goods and it accounts for about 88 percent of all goods exported by Bellegprom enterprises.

In recent months, however, Belarusian light industry exports to Russia have declined owing to the weakening of the Russian ruble vis-à-vis the US dollar.

Ms. Tyaglova also said that Bellegprom filed a complaint with the State Customs Committee of Belarus against dumping of synthetic yarns by Turkey. As a result, the anti-dumping duty on synthetic yarn imports from Turkey has been raised to US$ 4.5 per kg from the earlier US$ 2.5 per kg.

In the first seven months of 2012, Bellegprom’s exports increased by 1.5 percent year-on-year, while its imports decreased by 8.8 percent year-on-year.
