Textile and garment exports from China grew by mere 0.54 percent year-on-year to US$ 187.114 billion during the first nine months of the current year, according to the latest customs data.

Sub-sector wise, textile exports rose by 0.24 percent year-on-year to US$ 71.053 billion, while the exports of apparels and accessories increased by 0.73 percent year-on-year to US$ 116.061 billion, during the nine-month period.

Chen Da-Peng, vice president of China National Garment Association, said China’s textile and garment industry is not growing at fast pace because of the rise in domestic production cost, which has resulted in decline of overall competitiveness of China’s clothing industry.
