Next to Germany, China has become the second-largest importer of Italian textiles.

From January to June this year, Italian textile exporters to China increased by 8.7 percent year-on-year, as per the data made available at the second China Milano Unica Italian textile conference held last month in Shanghai.

At the recent expo, over 100 Italian textile suppliers exhibited their winter range to boost their exports to China.

According to Silvio Albini, President of the Italian textile fabric show, small Italian textile enterprises find it difficult to enter a complex market like China and hence they use exhibitions as springboard to enter the Chinese market.

China is a large market for Italian quality textiles, according to the data of the Italian Trade Commission. Around fifty percent of all Italian textiles exported to China are worsted wool fabrics, while the rest include cotton fabrics and carded wool fabrics.
