China's cotton textiles imports surge in Jan-Sept

China imported US$ 5.34 billion worth of cotton textiles during the first three quarters of 2012, registering a year-on-year growth of 24.9 percent, according to data from Chinese Customs.
 
The country imported cotton yarn worth US$ 3.57 billion during the nine-month period, showing a rise of 46 percent year-on-year. However, in terms of volume, China imported 1.088 million tons of cotton yarn, up 74 percent year-on-year.
 
On the other hand, China’s exports of cotton textiles touched US$ 18.64 billion during January to September this year, down six percent year-on-year. During the same period last year, China’s cotton textiles exports grew by 20.3 percent year-on-year.
 
From January to September 2012, exports of cotton fabrics from China registered US$ 9.15 billion, down 6.1 percent year-on-year.
