Pakistan's garment exports soar in July-Dec'12

Posting a year-on-year rise of 13.29 percent, Pakistan exported 13.483 million dozen of readymade garments valuing US$ 897.86 million during the first half of the current fiscal that started on July 1, 2012, Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) data shows.
 
Pakistan exported 12.14 million dozen of apparels worth around US$ 792.5 million during same period of last fiscal. 
 
Meanwhile, the country’s knitwear exports for July-December 2012 grew from 51.266 million dozen in July-December 2011 to 52.622 million dozen, while value-wise it grew from US$ 1045.4 million to US$ 1047.4 million, a year-on-year rise of 0.19 percent, the data shows.
 
Towel exports for the period grew from July-December 2011’s 56,882 metric tons worth US$ 327.24 million to 77,761 metric tons worth US$ 369.031 million, a year-on-year rise of 12.77 percent.
 
The country also exported 14,200 metric tonnes of tents, canvas and tarpaulin worth US$ 53.92 million during July-December 2012. The figure is indicative of a rise of 25.39 percent over exports of 12,681 metric tons worth US$ 43.001 million made during corresponding period of previous fiscal.
