Madeups, yarn, apparel & fabric imports up in Jan 2006

Significant increase in overall textiles imports has been recorded this year in the month of January, reveal US statistics.

Madeups, yarns, apparel and fabrics in particular, recorded steady rise in January.

Taking the top spot, madeup imports rose $1336 million in January against $1150 million recorded in the same month in 2005, which was a 16.15 percent increase.

As for yarns, imports shot up 10.76 percent at $156 million compared to $141 million registered during January 2005.

Apparel imports registered 2.45 percent growth in January 2006 at $5787 million, while it was $5648 million, the same month in the previous year.

Overall, US imports grew 4.63 percent at $7857 million this year in the first month, against $7509 million logged in January 2005.
