Peru's cotton import volume for August 2005 through February 2006 period registered a sharp decline, dropping 23.7 percent in volume to 93,225 480-pound bales.
Cotton import volume for December 2005 through February 2006 period showed a faster decline with a fall of 48.6 percent in February alone.
Sharp drop in ELS cotton imports has been the major reason for this decline.
January through February cumulative ELS cotton fell to zero compared to 15,663 480-pound bales imported during the same period last year.
Upland imports for January through February period has also registered a fall of 18.4 percent to 28,271 480-pound bales.
Largest ELS cotton supplier has been the United States.
