China was the biggest importer of the cotton reporting 387,000 bales, followed by Pakistan which imported 377,000 bales.

China, Pakistan, Indonesia and Japan all combined, account for over 60 percent of the Brazil's cotton exports.

In 2004-05, Indonesia, Japan and Pakistan were the leading consumers of the Brazilian cotton.

Brazil's cotton production has been witnessing healthy growth, in 2004-05 registered 5.9 million bales and in 2003-04 reported 6 million bales but for 2005-06 its cotton area is forecasted to decline at 27 percent and production would fall at 20 percent.
