Armenia, a mountainous country in the South Caucasus region of Eurasia, intends to export textiles to the Custom Union countries of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia, Prime Minister Tigran Sariksyan, said in the country’s Parliament during a discussion on the 2014 draft budget, Novosti Armenia reported.

The Prime Minister said the Government has approved a strategy for export-oriented industries in the textile sector. He added that the strategy has been developed in collaboration with the private sector.

Mr. Sariksyan said Armenia will get relative advantage in the light industry, which includes textiles. He hoped that the country achieves its earlier export volumes by implementing the tailor-made strategies for increasing its textile exports.

In recent years, several foreign firms have set up their textile and clothing manufacturing units in Armenia.

Russia, Canada, Germany Italy and some CIS nations are the main export destinations for Armenian textile products.
