China's textile and apparel exports grow steadily in 2013

China’s textile and apparel exports achieved steady growth in 2013 to earn US$ 283.99 billion, registering an increase of 11.4 percent year-on-year, according to the General Administration of Customs statistics.
 
Segment-wise, the textile sector exports were valued at $106.944 billion, up 11.6 percent year-on-year, while the apparel sector exports were worth $177.046 billion, up 11.2 percent year-on-year.
 
In December 2013, China exported textiles and clothing worth $26 billion, showing a rise of 7.9 percent year-on-year. Of this, textile exports jumped 13.7 percent y-o-y to earn $9.737 billion, whereas garment exports grew at 4.7 percent y-o-y to fetch $16.26 billion.
 
In 2013, China imported 380,000 tons of synthetic fibres for textile use valued at $1.154 billion, up 15.9 percent y-o-y and 14.5 percent y-o-y, respectively. 
 
Last year, China’s synthetic fibre yarn imports stood at 387,000 tons, down 4.3 percent y-o-y. In terms of value, it was worth $1.941 billion, up 1.6 percent y-o-y.
 
In December 2013, China imported 30,000 tons of synthetic fibres and 31,000 tons of synthetic yarn, valued at $98 million and $164 million, respectively.
