Country banks heavily on imported fibre material

Textile and garment industry is the second biggest exporting sector of Vietnam but has not capacity to generate the raw materials required by the industries by itself, according to Ministry of Trade.

This sector imported 219,000 tons of fibre materials during first two months of 2006 registering an increase of 8.7 percent in volume compared to corresponding period of the previous year.

Among the suppliers, Taiwan topped exporting 13,060 tons earning revenue worth about US $15 million.
