Turkey's textile exports touch $8.39bn in 2013: ITKIB

Turkey’s exports of textiles and raw materials, excluding apparel, touched US$ 8.39 billion in the year 2013, indicating a rise of 7 percent, compared to 2012, as per the data released by the Istanbul Textile and Apparel Exporters’ Association (ITKIB).
 
According to the ITKIB data, Turkey exported textiles and raw materials worth US$ 8.39 billion last year, whereas in 2012, the country exported US$ 7.83 billion worth of textiles and raw materials.
 
Sub-sector wise, the highest exports were made from the woven fabric category, the exports of which reached US$ 2.83 billion during 2013, accounting for 33.8 percent of the total textile and raw material exports from the country.
 
The second highest exports were from the yarn category, with exports worth $1.74 billion in 2013, followed by knitted fabrics with $1.68 billion and fibres with exports worth $642.66 million during last year.
 
According to the ITKIB data, textile and raw material exports accounted for 5.5 percent of the overall exports from the country.
 
The European Union (EU) remained the main destination of textile and raw material exports from Turkey as 45.6 percent of the exports were to countries in the EU.
 
Country-wise, Russia maintained first position with Turkey exporting textile and raw materials worth $1.01 billion to the country, followed by Italy with $837.6 million, Germany with $445.5 million, Romania with $329.7 million, and the UK with $321.1 million. 
 
Turkish textile and raw material exports to the Middle East recorded a surge of 6.2 percent year-on-year to gross $663.1 million during last year.
