Pakistan's leather exports rise 10.78% in H1 FY'14

The exports of leather and leather products from Pakistan increased by 10.78 percent to US$ 567.376 million during the first half of the fiscal year 2013-14, compared to exports worth $512.128 million made during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal, data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) showed.
 
Pakistan exported 12.806 million sq m of tanned leather in July-December 2013 period, earning $250.949 million, which was a growth of 13.56 percent over $220.981 million exports made during the same period in the previous fiscal.
 
Among leather products, Pakistan exported 584,000 dozens of garments during the six-month period, which fetched $218.094 million, as against $199.919 million earned during July-December 2012.
 
During the same period, Pakistan exported 3.231 million dozens of leather gloves for $92.3 million, registering a growth of 9.41 percent year-on-year.
 
However, exports of other leather items decreased by 12.17 percent year-on-year, the PBS data showed.
 
In the footwear category, 3.498 million pairs of leather footwear were exported by Pakistan during the period under review for $44.691 million, achieving a 12.46 percent year-on-year growth.
