Italy's domestic cotton yarn output declined faster than fabric output, which in turn generated cotton yarn import demand.

Domestic knitters and weavers have gone in for substantial volume of yarn imports from India during last few months.

Cotton yarn imports registered growth of 6.7 percent to 11,331 tons in January.

India was top supplier with imports of 2,235 tons in January, recording a year-on-year rise of 43.8 percent.

Turkey, Syria and Pakistan were the other top suppliers.

Cotton yarn exports declined on the other hand, recording a fall of 14.4 percent in January to 3,544 tons.

European Union remained the top export market.

Exports to the EU-15 countries in January fell 20.6 percent to 1,879 tons.

France, Spain, Romania, Germany and the Czech Republic were top export markets in January.
