Spanish textile exports rise 6.1% in first 3 months

Exports of Spanish textile and clothing touched €3.12 billion during the first three months of 2014, recording a surge of 6.1 percent, compared to the same period last year, as per the data released by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness.

According to the Ministry’s monthly data on exports from January to March 2014, exports from the apparel sub-sector totaled €2.2 billion in the first three months, registering a rise of 5.3 percent, compared to the same period last year.

The textile and garment exports from Spain accounted for 5.4 percent of the overall exports made from the country during the first three months of this year.

Meanwhile, as per the Ministry’s data, textile and clothing imports made by the country amounted to €4.07 billion during the January to March period, showing a surge of 14.3 percent, compared to the same period last year.

Imports in the garment sub-sector totaled €3.12 billion during the January to March period, registering a rise of 4.8 percent, compared to the same period last year.

Textile and clothing imports made by Spain accounted for 6.3 percent of the overall imports made by the country during the first three months of 2014.

In 2013, Spain exported textile and clothing worth €12 billion, indicating a rise of 12.4 percent year-on-year, of which exports from the garments sub-sector totaled €8.6 billion, registering a surge of 15.4 percent compared to 2012.
