Pakistan's textile exports decline marginally in Q1 FY15

The exports of textiles and garments from Pakistan declined marginally by 3.99 percent year-on-year to US$ 3.417 billion in the first quarter of fiscal year 2014-15 that began on July 1, according to the data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.

In July-September 2014, Pakistan’s knitwear exports grew by 11.16 percent year-on-year to US$ 632.233 million, while exports of non-knit readymade garments were up by 2.78 percent to $484.374 million.

Raw cotton exports fetched $49.943 million in the three-month period, showing a drop of 23.9 percent compared to exports of $65.631 million made during the corresponding quarter of last year. Likewise, cotton yarn exports fell by 21.78 percent to $463.216 million, as against exports of $592.185 million made during the same period last year.

Exports of cotton fabric dropped 13.52 percent to $629.404 million during the period under review, while bedwear exports declined by 3.27 percent to $552.943 million, the data showed.

On the other hand, the import of synthetic fibre by Pakistan surged 64.48 percent year-on-year to $155.37 million, whereas imports of synthetic and artificial silk yarn witnessed a growth of 25.76 percent to register $170.548 million. This shows that textile enterprises have increased the use of synthetic fibre and yarn in recent months.

Meanwhile, the value of textile machinery imports made by Pakistan during the period rose by 2.80 percent year-on-year to $113.643 million. (RKS)
