Knitwear sector of Tirupur shifts in top gear

Knitwear exports from Tirupur crossed Rs8500 crore mark in the last FY, President of Tirupur Exporters' Association (TEA), A Shaktivel said.

Tirupur had exported just Rs15 crore in 1985, and after that it has continuously and consistently reported impressive growth contributing 62 percent of total knitwear exports of India at present, informed Shaktivel at the inaugural function of 22nd India Knit Fair.

About the fair, he said that there were 48 stalls of several garment manufacturers from across the country at 'Spring/Summer Collection-2007'.

28 foreign buyers and 11 foreign buying houses had landed at Tirupur to participate in the event, he added.

Jointly organized by TEA, Apparel Export Promotion Council and India Knit Fair Association, the fair provides a platform for both Indian and international buyers to interact with one another under one roof.

It showcases innovations in categories like T-shirts, pullovers, cardigans, washed look garments for men, women, children and babies.
