US textile and apparel exports grow 2.65% in Jan-Oct '14

The exports of textile and apparel from United States increased by 2.65 per cent to $20.502 billion in January-October 2014, compared to exports of $19.972 billion made during the corresponding period of last year, data from the US Department of Commerce showed.
 
Category-wise, apparel exports rose marginally by 3.42 per cent year-on-year to $5.065 billion, while textile mill products jumped 2.40 per cent year-on-year to $15.437 billion during the first ten months of 2014.
 
Among apparel, the highest growth of 39.58 per cent was registered in exports of women’s and girls’ woven shirts, whereas a maximum decline of 32.30 per cent was seen in exports of men’s and boys’ ensembles.
 
Among textile mill products, fabric exports grew the fastest by 4.19 per cent year-on-year to $7.830 billion, while yarn exports climbed 0.76 per cent year-on-year to $4.443 billion and made-up article exports increased marginally by 0.46 per cent year-on-year to $3.163 billion.
 
The exports of cotton broadwoven fabrics from the US increased by 12.21 per cent year-on-year to $550.602 million, whereas wool woven fabric exports dipped 27.92 per cent to $29.293 million.
 
Country-wise, Mexico, Canada and Honduras together accounted for more than half of the total US textile and clothing exports in January-October 2014. The US supplied $5.233 billion worth of textiles and apparel to Mexico during the ten-month period, followed by $4.634 billion to Canada and $1.292 billion to Honduras.
 
In recent years, the US textile and clothing exports have been growing at a slow but steady pace. They have grown from $19.752 billion in 2010 to $22.432 billion in 2011, $22.670 billion in 2012 and $23.665 billion in 2013. (RKS)
