Cotton import rise 4.6% to $43 million in Q1

Vietnam imported 36.7000 tons of cotton worth $42.7 million, recording a decline of 2.4 percent in terms of volume, during first quarter of 2006, but value wise it registered a rise of 4.6 percent compared to corresponding period of 2005, according to statistics of General Customs.

The US, Singapore, India, Taiwan and Switzerland emerged as the biggest suppliers of cotton to Vietnam, the statistics show.

Average import price for the period is approximately between $1,121-1,247 per ton.

India exported cotton to Vietnam at the rate of $1,185 per ton; Switzerland between $1,230-1,255 per ton, the US quoted $1,185 per ton, Belgium's price ranged between $1,164-1,170 per ton, Tanzania quoted between $ 1,066-1,217 per ton.
