Pre-budget session insists assured constant energy supply

Fazlul Hoque President of Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters' Association (BKMEA) said the exporters possibly would not take out all orders owing to deficiency of energy supply.

Anwar Parvej of Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) said textile exports would face incredible confrontation from 2008 owing to removal of limitations from Chinese exports and explained that irregular energy supply, lofty cost of fuel oils and gas are posturing great hazard to this foremost export sector.

Responding to the anxieties of businessmen the Saifur Rehman, Finance Minister, said it is not likely for any government to keep happy all quarters in the budget.

He assured that a budget will devised to provide them with the least sting.

Minister confirmed local businessmen would be given the same amenities in the projected economic zones as benefited by overseas companies in the export processing zones (EPZs).

Rehman also confessed that some overseas companies were sending back precious foreign currencies leading to the stress on the money market.

FBCCI President, Mir Nasir Hossain planned 248 offered for import duties, 146 for value added tax (VAT) and 72 for income tax. FBCCI furnished proposals to resolve the lowest tier of import duty at 2.5 percent from the on hand 6.0 percent.
