Vietnam exported footwear worth $35 million to Mexico during first four months of 2006, representing an increase of 10 percent compared to same period 2005, the General Customs informed.

Sports shoes accounted for about 60 percent of total footwear exports turnover, worth $21 million during Jan to April 2006 period.

However, the growth figure displays a reducing trend as Mexico footwear makers are trying to limit those goods from Vietnam, sources said.

Recently, an anti-dumping duty has been proposed to be applied for Vietnamese footwear by CIEG – leather shoes office of Guana state, Mexico.

During 2001-2005 period, footwear exports growth to Mexico has remained stable at around 50 percent a year.
