Vietnam's fabric & garment exports grow 10.2% in H1

Fabric and garment exports from the Southeast Asian nation of Vietnam grew at 10.2 per cent year-on-year to $10.258 billion in the first six months of 2015, according to the preliminary data released by the customs IT & statistics department, general department of customs, Vietnam’s ministry of finance.
 
Destination-wise, the US alone accounted for 50 per cent or $5.133 billion worth of fabric and apparel from Vietnam during January-June 2015, followed by Japan and South Korea with exports to these countries valued at $1.218 billion and $756.939 million, respectively.
 
Vietnam also exported 470,888 tons of yarn fetching $1.260 billion during the six-month period, registering an increase of 21.3 per cent and 7.2 per cent year-on-year, respectively, according to the data.
 
Thus, Vietnam’s total earnings from yarn, fabric and garment exports stood at $11.518 billion during the period under review. On the other hand, Vietnam imported 536,902 tons of cotton and 389,346 tons of yarn, valued at $855.962 million and $757.933 million, respectively. 
 
Vietnam’s fabric imports soared by 8.9 per cent year over year to $4.981 billion, over half of which were imported from China (valued at $2.529 billion) during the first half of this year.
 
In 2014, Vietnam’s fabric and garment exports grew at 16.8 per cent year-on-year to $20.948 billion. (RKS)
